Bridges: Building Inclusion Between Schools and Libraries

How can we ensure that every child, regardless of their background, receives the necessary educational support? Certainly, collaboration between formal institutions and cultural spaces is the key to leaving no one behind. For this reason, we are proud to introduce Bridges, a European project aimed at innovating support for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

First of all, this initiative addresses the challenge of early diagnosis and timely intervention in disadvantaged contexts. The goal is to transform libraries and cultural centers into true inclusion “hubs” capable of engaging with the world of schools. A European network for inclusive education

Bridges is a project involving a strategic partnership between Spain, Italy, and Romania. In fact, the strength of this action lies in the cooperation between educational institutions and third-sector organizations, working together to overcome socio-economic barriers.

For example, the activities involve the development of:

  • Early screening tools: adaptable instruments to promptly identify learning difficulties.
  • Multilingual Story Kits: interactive educational materials designed for children with neurodivergences or language barriers.
  • Training courses: specific pathways for teachers, librarians, and volunteers to strengthen their inclusive skills.

However, the beating heart of the work is family engagement. In addition, the project aims to create a support network that accompanies parents through their children’s educational journey. You can consult the general guidelines on school cooperation on the official Bridges website.

Objectives and impact towards 2027

The coming months will be dedicated to creating an operational framework that unites formal and non-formal education. Therefore, Bridges is not limited to theory but aims to leave concrete and lasting tools for the local communities involved.

In short, these are the main goals:

  • Empowerment: training professionals capable of managing diversity in cultural contexts.
  • Accessibility: making educational services accessible even to the most vulnerable groups.
  • Innovation: using play and storytelling as tools for social inclusion.

Certainly, building bridges between different educational realities is the best way to ensure a fair future. For this reason, we will continue to work so that Bridges becomes a reference model for inclusion across Europe.
